Hiking

Hiking along the coast is more than an activity, it’s a life experience, a journey of self discovery. Design your own trek from easy to extreme, half an hour to several days, our trail options are seemingly endless. Ocean and coastal vistas, rainforest paths, awe-inspiring bluffs, bridges, wildflowers, waterfalls and wildlife, there are countless reasons to fall in love with our trails.

 

Biking

Our region is quickly becoming known as one of the premiere mountain biking destinations in the country, maybe the world. Just ask the racers of the BC Bike Race who are still raving about their experience on our trails.

 

Canoeing

We not only have the distinct honour of hosting the Pacific Ocean on our beachfront, we have an amazing circuit of freshwater lakes, perfect for the canoeing adventure of a lifetime. From quick paddles to multi-day adventures such as the Powell Forest Canoe Route, our waterways are yours to enjoy.

 

Kayaking

Nothing puts you more in touch with our coastal paradise than by exploring our many waterways by kayak. If you haven’t paddled the Sechelt Inlet or into Desolation Sound, well you are in for an amazing experience. For expert paddlers only, our world-famous Skookumchuk Narrows offers the thrill of a lifetime. You won’t believe your eyes!

 

Marine/Boat/Zodiac Tours

Great for teambuilding, take your group out into our Marine Parks to explore coves, inlets, waterfalls, marine parks, islands, aquaculture, marine life and much much more.

 

Beachcombing/Swimming

Our beaches are famous. What better way to rejuvenate your soul than combing our endless beaches, playing volleyball, swimming, skim boarding, rockhounding, or just soaking in the sun’s rays? 

 

Fishing

Saltwater anglers can expect great peak-season salmon fishing along our magnificent coastline. The Strait of Georgia is a major salmon migration route and is accessible from any of our communities, from Howe Sound to Desolation Sound.

 

Sailing/Yachting

Cruising coastal waterways is both pastime and passion for many on the Sunshine Coast, where you will find some of the finest sailing anywhere in the world. Our boating season is year-round, with an abundance of marine life including sea lions, porpoises and orcas, which provide great wildlife viewing while at sea. Our waters are easily reached from Vancouver area marinas, or from the Gulf Islands and US. Highlights include Princess Luisa Inlet and Desolation Sound, among many others

 

Rockclimbing

Climbers from around the world come to tackle the sheer rock faces and awe-inspiring bluffs of the Sunshine Coast, particularly those of the Eldred Valley and Stillwater Bluffs near Powell River. 

 

Diving

The Sechelt Inlet, Powell River and Texada Island all offer some of the best cold-water dive sites in the world, highly rated by diving magazines and the Cousteau Society. Explore wrecks, WWII ships and even sunken mermaid. Come face to face with wolf eels, rockfish, octopi and other sea life that is all part of an extremely colourful marine eco-system

 

Horseback Riding

Explore our lush back country or perhaps even some of our beaches this way. Nothing feels more wild or free than experiencing the Sunshine Coast by horseback.

Golfing

The Sunshine Coast lives up to its name with an average 2400 hours of annual sunshine, so it's easy to see why golfers love to play here (even in winter!). Put your clubs into the car and follow a golf trail along the Coast to seek out our very different and extremely scenic courses.

 

ATV/Off Road Adventures

Want to get into our backcountry, but not into hiking per se? We have many routes perfect for Quads and ATV’s, or charter a ride via 4x4!

Wildlife Viewing/Birding

Our coastal paradise is home to some of the most awesome wildlife! From bears, deer and elk to rockfish, wolf eels, dolphins and seals, wildlife sightings are part of the everyday norm on the Sunshine Coast. And talk about birds! Add over 250 species of birds on Texada alone, with the numerous species found all along the coast, you better make sure you pack your camera, and your field glasses.

 

Cross-country Skiing and Snowshoeing

A true four-season destination, our mountains are just waiting for you to explore. Dakota Ridge and The Knuckleheads Winter Recreation Area are perfect for winter exploration and exhilaration. And given the right conditions, you could truly snowshoe in the morning, and hit the links in the afternoon.

Arts, Culture and Heritage

It is no wonder that this region boasts more artists and musicians per capita than any other region in Canada. Powell River’s Historic Townsite (www.powellrivertownsite.com) , designated as a National Historic District of Canada in 1995, one of only seven in Canada and the only one in western Canada, features heritage houses, hotels and the Patricia Theatre (www.patricatheatre.com) , Canada’s oldest continuously operating movie house.
